about me: professional
I have been lucky enough to call this my second home for over 20 years. I started as a student teacher and then became an instructional assistant. The next year I got my own 5th grade classroom. I have taught fifth grade for 5 years, fourth grade for 14 years, second grade for two years, and now I am a third grade teacher.
Whiteland Elementary is a great school. We have been renovated two times since I have been here. The school was open concept which means that walls were limited. Talk about the noise! Now our building has lots of art work built into the many beautiful areas. I have been glad to see us grow and change.
Our corporation has provided MANY opportunities for professional growth. Over the years I have attended 100's of hours of training. Some of the workshops have been:
6+1 Writing, Smekens Reading and Writing, Instructional Coaching for Educators, Technology, Daily 5, Crisis Intervention, and so many more. Along with those hours, I also completed my Master's Degree in Education several years ago.
The high school also has a program that places students into a variety of job experiences and because of that I have had helpers in the classroom. Over the years I have also had a variety of student teachers in the classroom for either weekly experiences or semester long student teaching. A few of those have since become teachers in our corporation.
I am at the point where I now have former students as parents of current students.
Teaching is a growth process. Every year I try to learn more so I can teach better. I am on my way to hitting some stars!
